The Leon Levy Preserve Inspires “Grow Home, Little Seeds” by Elaine A. Powers

March 24th, 2021 was the tenth anniversary of the day the Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve opened its gates to the public. It was founded by Shelby White in honor of her husband, Leon Levy. The Preserve was created for the benefit of the community as a special place to conserve the natural beauty of Eleuthera and preserve cultural heritage, such as the use of native plants in bush medicine.

The LLNPP is a 30-acre, world-class, botanic garden in Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera. It’s a wonderful showcase of native and endemic Bahamian plants and is the only national park on the island.

This amazing park has inspired me to write many stories. Grow Home, Little Seeds is an educational adventure tale featuring the plants of the Preserve, with a glossary in the back of the book. The fun and lovely illustrations were created by Eleuthera resident, Moni Carroll.
