How the Illustrations Came to Be by Diane Ronning, Illustrator

I decided to illustrate author Gene Twaronite’s wonderful words in HOW TO EAT BREAKFAST because the story is about two things I love: animals and food. I was thrilled to be able to bring his characters to life with traditional illustrations using watercolor and colored pencil.

The fun part was sketching and re-sketching images to create a visual telling of Gene’s imaginative story. Wanda, the main character, is a curious dreamer. Her imaginary adventure feels very real as she takes the reader along to watch and learn how all the animals eat.

My first published illustration was an elephant drawing I did in kindergarten picked up by the San Francisco Chronicle. Growing up, I used to ride my bike to the library to check out as many books as allowed. I gazed at all the different illustrations and decided I wanted to make books someday.

How DO all those animals eat?

My dream finally came true when I partnered with Gene, and HOW TO EAT BREAKFAST became my first illustrated picture book.

Note: Lyric Power Publishing is thrilled to published this fun science-based children’s story with its delightful illustrations by Diane Ronning. You can follow Diane’s work at her website: https://www.dianeronning.com/about.

We hope the reader enjoys learning about how animals eat as much as we do. And, we look forward to Gene and Diane’s future creative endeavors.
