From the Desert to the Big Screen

Last fall, I was approached by an agent interested in shopping my book, Dinosaurs Roamed Arizona, to movie production companies. I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first. There are plenty of opportunists looking to make money off of authors—especially self-published ones. However, after doing my due diligence and investigating the offer, it seemed completely legitimate.

The only thing they requested from me was a video book trailer. I’m finding more and more that modern marketing efforts require these visual “hooks” to capture interest.

Bringing the Past to Life

Fortunately, my amazing illustrator and animator, Brad Peterson (also known as Anderson Atlas), is a master at creating trailers. Since he provided the exquisite illustrations for the book, he knows the material intimately and is equally responsible for how the final project turned out.

He put together a wonderful trailer that captures the spirit of our prehistoric Arizonans. You can watch it here:

A Strong Proof of Concept

The agent’s response to the video was very positive and encouraging. They noted:

“This is a strong proof of concept. It clearly presents the educational focus, visual style, and family-friendly tone of Dinosaurs Roamed Arizona. The pacing, narration, and use of illustrations make it easy to understand how the project could translate to an animated or educational screen format.”

Unfortunately, the movie industry is currently experiencing a bit of turmoil with various mergers and take-overs among production companies and distributors. Because of this, the agent has had to pause his activities for the moment.

While we wait for the Hollywood dust to settle, we are ready to go! In the meantime, I have this engaging trailer from Brad to share with all of you. It’s a great way to see these ancient creatures step off the page. Check it out and let me know what you think!

See the Stories in Action If you enjoyed the trailer, you’ll love seeing my other books come to life! From prehistoric giants to the first episode of Curtis Curly-Tail and his journey through The Bahamas, you can watch it all on my author website video page.
