When I moved to Tucson, I enjoyed discovering the local wildlife. Even though they dug holes in my yard, I really liked the popping up and down of the little prairie-dog-looking rodents.  The “chipmunks” scurried along the back wall, dashing between the bushes. I was surprised when I noticed a black squirrel with a big bushy tail among the branches of the mesquite tree in back and when I learned they are all ground squirrels, adapted to different parts of the environment.

A chat with an educator at the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center inspired me to create this book. I had a great time learning about these marvelous squirrels and hope you will, too!

BOOK DESCRIPTION: Despite their different appearances, all the squirrels native to the Sonoran Desert are ground squirrels! Burrow into this book to learn about their shared and unique features. This is a great family read for ages five and up. If your little ones are curious about those borrowing, furry squirrels in your backyard or at your favorite park, Squirrels of the Sonoran Desert is a great introduction. It’s full of insightful information and wonderful illustrations. Even if younger children don’t remember all of the scientific knowledge contained in this book, it’s important to start imprinting their brains with positive, educational, and interesting information about the world around them.
